The work exists between the photographic and the painterly abstract. The land holds the quiet surface of idyll, yet beneath it lie the echoes of bodies—local and foreign—drawn into centuries of conflict, trade, and conquest. Bagamoyo’s hinterland has been shaped by successive waves of external powers, each leaving its imprint on people and place. Lives were uprooted, entangled, and dispersed within these shifting powerplays. Yet from this layered history, the potential for new imaginaries emerges.
