Photography’s materiality exists in a field of tension—between the seen and the suppressed, figure and abstraction. The image evokes the spirit of Bagamoyo, where Swahili coastal spirituality weaves together Islam and indigenous cosmologies. Daily life flows through layered belief systems, ancestral connections, and ritual gestures that bind the material to the spiritual. On the cusp of change, this mixed-media work captures a fragile equilibrium, where faith and memory navigate the disquiet of transformation.
