This visual construct reflects the tension between two radically different worldviews. Drawing on 19th-century colonial propaganda postcards that celebrated German military victories, it overlays a contemporary family scene onto the 1888 battle of Bagamoyo—an event after which the town briefly became the capital of German East Africa. The photograph probes how visual narratives construct history and reveals the ever-shifting interplay between memory, representation, and contemporary identity.
